POWER-PACKED HIGHLIGHTS FROM ENERGY WEEK 2024

Behind the scenes at Energy Week

We've just returned from Australian Energy Week, where we engaged with energy sector professionals from Australia and beyond, introducing them to the colour of MosaicLab!

As the energy sector evolves, so do expectations for customer engagement. MosaicLab directors Nicole Hunter and Keith Greaves connected with conference attendees around current trends, successful engagement strategies and some significant engagement challenges facing the industry.

There were a lot of conversations about ‘social licence to operate’ in what is a changing and complex environment. Conference delegates are interested in how they can collaborate with their customers and local communities to help navigate what is needed in a way that helps everyone move forward. These are dilemmas we’re gearing up to explore in our upcoming Energy Hour of Power webinar (more details below!).

Discussing engagement challenges in the energy space is rich, complex and valuable. I really believe the energy transition is a problem of our time and one that we all need to put our heads together on.

WHAT WE HEARD: SECTOR DILEMMAS AND INSIGHTS

Some of the insights we gathered at Australian Energy Week are highlighted below.

  • Making the transition to renewable energy isn’t simple (surprise!). Not only is there a lot of land needed to place renewable energy assets on, but you also need to plan for the ‘darkest days’ when the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing. This therefore means we need a mix of options not just one sort and the numbers need to stack up for everyone in the space - the businesses, the residents and the asset providers/managers.

  • The optics of using anything other than renewables going forward, will play a big part in deciding the mix of energy options for customers and producers.

  • If we have a mix of possible energy (even moveable energy courses eg. Electric Vehicles) how do they all feed in and out of the system? Who pays and how much? Will there be many different suppliers of energy into the future from industry to other people, like we have different NBN providers?

  • Even if the use of the grid is easier and cheaper right now, more industries will need to consider their emissions and their ability to attract investment or even customers for their products if they are not using renewables into the future.

  • Use of different energy sources other than what we know now (like hydrogen) will add even more diversity into the future, and the grid continues to have a relevant role for many years to come.

  • And if you got this far……we also think the we heard the ‘best job title in the week’ - ‘Department of unresolved and meaningful problems’ or DUMP for short! (*Ben Burge, Telstra).

spinning & winning at energy week

While there were lots of serious subjects discussed at the conference such as regulation utopis, AI, Community Energy Resources (CER), re-engineering the grid, the future retail outlook, generation into the future and battery energy, we still had some time for a bit of colour and movement at the spin-and-win stand.

Congratulations to all of our prize winners - we enjoyed connecting and chatting with every visitor to our stand.
