Frequently asked questions
What is a People’s Panel?
A People’s Panel puts the community at the centre of decision-making. It’s a group of local people who learn about an issue, share their views and shape decisions.
What happens at the panel?
People work together, hear from experts, learn, and talk through ideas as a group, sometimes in small groups. At the end, the panel writes a report with its recommendations, which is presented to decision-makers.
Do I need to know anything about Gippsland Water or water pricing?
No. You don’t need any prior knowledge. We’ll provide all the information you need before and during the sessions.
Will participants be paid?
Yes. If you are selected and attend all five sessions, you will receive $1,000, paid after the final session.
What is ‘random selection’ and why is it used?
Random selection means people are chosen by chance from a large group. This helps the panel reflect the wider community, with a mix of ages, locations, life experiences and backgrounds, and gives everyone a fair chance of being selected.
Who runs the panel?
An independent organisation called MosaicLab manages the process and runs the panel. They are experienced facilitators who guide discussions and make sure everyone has the chance to speak and be heard. Learn more about MosaicLab here.
How will you make the sessions accessible?
If you are selected, we’ll contact you to ask about any support you need. We’ll do our best to make the sessions accessible for everyone, including mobility and disability support where required.
Who can take part?
The panel is open to people across the Gippsland Water region. You can’t take part if you are a current or recent (last five years) Gippsland Water board or staff member, a current elected official at any level of government, or under 16.
What happens after I register my interest?
After registrations close, up to 50 people are randomly selected, aiming to reflect the diversity of the community. You’ll be told whether you’ve been selected. If selected, you’ll be contacted and guided through the next steps. If not, you’ll be notified and offered ways to stay involved.
What happens at the end of the panel?
On the final day, the panel presents its recommendations to Gippsland Water. Gippsland Water will review them carefully and respond to each one, sharing what actions will be taken or explaining openly if they can’t and why.
